The Blended Gospel is a unique presentation of all four gospel accounts of our Saviour's life. More than simply a parallel harmony of the gospels, The Blended Gospel takes you on a composite journey through all the gospels at the same time. Scriptural texts, though modified for current English forms, punctuation and capitalization, are taken from the King James Version of the Bible and follows the KJV convention of italicizing supplied words. An example of serial composite text synchronism is illustrated by the following excerpts taken from three parallel gospel accounts in Matthew 5, Mark 2 and Luke 9. Unique aspects are displayed in bold type below:
The final result incorporated in this work is shown here with superscripted references to each source:
Superscripts 1-4 always refer to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John respectively. Two references to the book of Acts, authored by Luke, are supercripted with the letter A. Certain forms have been modernized to improve the flow of reading: "of"
as in "did you hear it of me?" is rendered "about" Copyright 2004 Gary Hullquist
John
1 4In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shined in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehended it. [4Jn 1:4, 5] 4That was the True Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. [4Jn 1:9] 4He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, but the world knew Him not. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. [4Jn 1:10, 11] 4But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [4Jn 1:12, 13] 4And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [4Jn 1:14] 4For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. [4Jn 1:17, 18] Luke 1 3Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, even as they delivered them to us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus, that you might know the certainty of those things, wherein you have been instructed. [3Lk 1:1-4] Matthew 1 Luke 3 1The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham, the father of Isaac, the father of Jacob, the father of Judah and his brothers; Judah fathered Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares fathered Esrom, the father of Aram; And Aram fathered Aminadab, the father of Naasson, the father of Salmon; And Salmon fathered Booz of Rachab; and Booz fathered Obed of Ruth; and Obed fathered Jesse; And Jesse fathered David the king; and David fathered Solomon of her that had been the wife of Uriah; And Solomon fathered Roboam, the father of Abia, the father of Asa; And Asa fathered Josaphat, the father of Joram, the father of Ozias; And Ozias fathered Joatham, the father of Achaz, the father of Ezekias; And Ezekias fathered Manasses, the father of Amon, the father of Josias; And Josias fathered Jechonias and his brothers, about the time they were carried away to Babylon. And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias fathered Salathiel, the father of Zorobabel; And Zorobabel fathered Abiud, the father of Eliakim, the father of Azor; And Azor fathered Sadoc, the father of Achim, the father of Eliud; And Eliud fathered Eleazar, the father of Matthan, the father of Jacob; And Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary, who gave birth to Jesus, who is called Christ... [1Mt 1:1-16] 3the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph, the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Naum, the son of Esli, the son of Nagge, the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semei, the son of Joseph, the son of Juda, the son of Joanna, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, the son of Neri, the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Simeon, the son of Juda, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Booz, the son of Salmon, the son of Naasson, the son of Aminadab, the son of Aram, the son of Esrom, the son of Phares, the son of Juda, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Thara, the son of Nachor, the son of Saruch, the son of Ragau, the son of Phalec, the son of Heber, the son of Sala, the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Sem, the son of Noe, the son of Lamech, the son of Mathusala, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Maleleel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God. [3Lk 3:23-38] 1So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations. [1Mt 1:17] Luke 1 3There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zachariah, from the course of Abijah: and his wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking blameless in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord. And they had no children, because Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. [3Luke 1:5-7] 3And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course, according to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of incense. [3Lk 1:8-10] 3And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. [3Lk 1:11] 3And when Zachariah saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him, "Fear not, Zachariah: for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elisabeth shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you shall have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And he shall turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." [3Lk 1:12-17] 3And Zachariah said to the angel, "Whereby shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well stricken in years." [3Lk 1:18] 3And the angel answering said to him, "I am Gabriel, that stands in the presence of God; and am sent to speak to you, and to show you these glad tidings. And, behold, you shall be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because you did not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season." [3Lk 1:19, 20] 3And the people waited for Zachariah, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple. And when he came out, he could not speak to them. [3Lk 1:21, 22] 3And they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned to them, and remained speechless. And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house. And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, "Thus has the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein He looked on me, to take away my reproach among men." [3Lk 1:21, 23-25] 3And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, from the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 3And the angel came in to her, and said, "Hail, you that are highly favoured, the Lord is with you: blessed are you among women." when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. the angel said to her, "Fear not, Mary: for you have found favour with God., behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give to Him the throne of His father David: and He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end." [3Lk 1:26-33] 3Then Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I do not know a man?" [3Lk 1:34] 3And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that Holy Thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God., behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible." [3Lk 1:35-37] 3And Mary said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word." the angel departed from her. [3Lk 1:38] 3And Mary arose in those days, and went in haste to the hill country, to a city of Judah; And entered into the house of Zachariah, and saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And what is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord." [3Lk 1:39-45] 3And Mary said, "My soul does magnify the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour. For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For He that is mighty has done great things to me; and holy is His name. And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation. He has showed strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He has sent empty away. 3He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy; as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to His seed for ever." And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house. [3Lk 1:46-56] 3Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had showed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her. And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zachariah, after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said, "Not so; but he shall be called John." And they said to her, "There is none of your kindred that is called by this name." And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, "His name is John." And they all marvelled. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, and praised God. [3Lk 1:57-64] 3And Zechariah was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied saying, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for He has visited and redeemed His people, and has raised up a Horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; as He spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant; the oath which He sware to our father Abraham, that He would grant to us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life. And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: for you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways; to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the Dayspring from on high has visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." [3Lk 1:67-79] And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were spread abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. And all that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, "What manner of child shall this be!" And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel. And the hand of the Lord was with him. [3Lk 1:65-66, 80] Matthew 1 1Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this manner: When His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, purposed to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, you son of David, fear not to take to you Mary your wife: for that which is conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins." Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken from the Lord by the prophet, saying, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." [Isaiah 7:14] Then Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took to him his wife: And he did not know her till she had brought forth her first-born son: and he called His name JESUS. [1Mt 1:18-25] Luke 2 3And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. [3Lk 2:1-5] 3And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. [3Lk 2:6, 7] 3And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field keeping watch over their flock by night. [3Lk 2:8] 3And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said to them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." [3Lk 2:9-11] 3"And this shall be a sign to you; You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." [3Lk 2:12] 3And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." [3Lk 2:13, 14] 3And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, "Let us now go even to Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told to them. [3Lk 2:15-20] Copyright 2004 Gary Hullquist |
